Airports:
The island is linked to mainland Greece with
sea routes from Thessaloniki, Volos and Agios Konstantinos.
There also exists an airport at the northeast of the
island. There is airline connection to Athens throughout
the year.
Lalaria:
One of the nicest and most picturesque beaches of Greece
and it is situated on the northern coast of the island.
The northern winds fall with rage on the steep purely
white cliffs, towering impressively over the sea. The
winds and waves have carved out some spectacular rocks
and have been creating for millions of years the round
white marble like pebbles called "lalaria"
which cover the whole beach.
History:
At Easter the greeting for the day is Hristos
Anesti (Christ is risen) and the reply is Alithos Anesti
(Truly he is risen).
Drink:
Ouzo (oo-zoh) is a popular hard liquor in Greece.
It tastes like black licorice or anise seed.
Culture:
At the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin,
thousands of people descend on the small port town to
participate in an all-night vigil at the cathedral of
Panagia Evanggelistria.
Water
Sports Centres: Most centres offer water-skiing,
para-sailing, rides on doughnuts or bananas, & hire
out jet-skis & motor boats.
Scuba
Diving: Scuba diving is attracting more &
more people these days & Skiathos is now catering
for this sport. There are 2 dive schools on the island.
One at "Nostos Beach" (Tzaneria) and one situated
on the harbour.
Dining:
The waterfront in town is crowded with excellent, if
expensive, tavernas. The tavernas above the old harbor
offer wonderful views of the town and the pine-covered
peninsula of Bourtzi.
Did
You Know?... The island is small, only about
12km from end to end.
HIstory:
The Hora, as many call the town of Skiathos, is the
main village on the island.
Papadiamantis
House: The house in which Alexandros Papadiamandis,
one of the most important Greek authors of the past
century lived and died.

Beach is also known as Chrisi Ammos, which means golden
sand.
